On Tuesday, November 23, the Riata Service Organization met at the home of Joan Whitaker with C. J. Reardon as co-hostess.
Joan Whitaker introduced our guest speakers, Scott Zesch, Tony Plutino and Tom Titus. The title of their program was "A Trip to Africa." They showed pictures and spoke about their recent trip to Africa.
Scott recalled his days as a member of the Peace Corps and teaching school in Kenya in the 1980s. He spoke about the changes that have occurred, more girls going to school, people having access to cell phones, and the people are very interested in American politics. They gave a very interesting and informative talk.
After dessert and coffee, president Pat Tucker called the meeting to order. Shew welcomed a new member, K. K. Brannies, to Riata. Reports from officers and committee chairpersons were given.
It was reported that new sand will be put in the sandboxes at Heritage Park in the spring.
A thank you note was read from Judge Jerry Bearden, thanking Riata for serving hot dogs and cold drinks at the courthouse's 100th birthday party.
The Christmas party was discussed. Each member is to bring a toy and ornament.
Members voted to participate in the Cancer Relay. Members also voted to give money to the school for backpacks. Meeting was adjourned.
