I would like to share one of the most delightful gifts of my holiday season with the good people of Mason.
On New Year's Eve, I opened my door to see Edna Earle Benton standing there. She had a little bag in her hand and gave it to me. In it was Val-O-Milk candy. For those who do not know about Val-O-Milk candy, it is a wonderful milk chocolate that, when you bit into it, this delicious marshmallow creme oozes out into your mouth. Got it?
Many months ago, Edna Earle and I had this conversation about our youth and what we enjoyed. Val-O-Milk was the candy for us. Well, she got Val-O-Milk for Christmas and thought of our conversation. So, she got into her car and brought some to me and Dennie. Some people would have forgotten our talk, much less take the time to share her candy. You see, Edna Earle and I are not young, understand we are not old, just not young girls anymore. It took an effort for her to do this.
This kindness was such a blessing, I felt the need to share it. It will never be forgotten.
It set my mind in motion with a memory trip of the many acts of kindness experienced in the eighty-one years my dear Lord has blessed me to live, all these years, in Mason County. If we read the newspapers or watch TV, we see many harsh things going on in our world, but there is truly a balance when we look for the good. It is there.
With a thankful heart for my beautiful family and dear friends who continue to amaze me with their love and kindness. A New Year's blessing to all.
