Selah Springs is a family-owned adventure retreat ranch on the San Saba River in Southern McCulloch County. Founded in 1994 by David Chavanne, what began with his simple desire to create a getaway for his family and friends in ministry soon turned into a retreat destination. It was David Chavanne’s belief that Selah Springs was preordained as a place of solace and relaxation, a place where families could escape the rush of the city and dwell on the quiet truths of God’s creation. For relaxation is the Ranches’ namesake. Selah, a Hebrew term found in the Psalms, is a musical expression which means to pause and to rest.
This past summer, David Chavanne went home to be with Lord, leaving his clear legacy of hospitality, stewardship and generosity for his family to carry forward. Recently, his son Philip and his wife Andrea took over management of the ranch with the hopes of carrying on David’s dream. With their own background in ministry as well, Phil and Andrea now view life on the ranch as a continuation of that mission.
"The ranch has developed several different elements but the fundamental mission remains the same: To Glorify God through the ranches’ four key values: Stewardship, servanthood, fellowship and adventure." Phil says
And this ranch has something for everyone. For the Big Game enthusiast they offer safari hunts for: Whitetail, Axis, Blackbuck, Aoudad, Oryx, and Sika deer. For the bird hunter they have fully outfitted trips for Turkey, Pheasant, Quail and Chukhar, complete with guides service & bird dogs.
"But Selah Springs is more than a hunting ranch," Phil says, "From a couple's getaway to a family reunion, or a men’s group weekend to a corporate retreat - our facilities can be used for just about anything. With Two lodges to choose from we can accommodate as many as 25 people and when you stay with us you have access to over a mile of secluded river frontage, and dozens of miles of hiking trails across the ranch. Selah Springs is a place to recharge your batteries."
In addition to their lodging they also provide adventure retreats as well. If viewing wildlife is your cup of tea take a photographic safari across dozens of miles of trails or if you are looking for a new kind of adventure try their Survivor Experience weekend.
"If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to survive a plane crash and have to rely on your teamwork and outdoor skills to survive - this is the trip for you. We’ve been hosting these team-building events for years and they are a real blast. Perfect for youth groups or team-building for corporate retreats."
"Our mission is to create a place for groups to enjoy God’s creation -where we can serve them and provide an atmosphere of fellowship and adventure. That was my father’s dream and one we hope to carry on in the years to come."
