The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, January 18th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 39 members and 3 visitors in attendance. Among the visitors were two Mason High School seniors, Tomas Callejas and Matt Hyden.

Lion Kirby Groves was responsible for the program and he introduced Pastor Mark Krause, Director of the Mason Ministerial Alliance Food Bank. The Food Bank gives needy families a box of groceries each month and the size of the family determines the number of boxes the gamily gets. Each box contains staple foods and meat of some type.

In 2010, they averaged giving 106 boxes to 82 families containing 266 people, of which, 74 were under the age of 12; and, 29 were over the age of 65. The Food Bank gets this food from donations and the San Angelo Food Bank which charges 18 cents per pound for all commodities.

The Lions' Pancake Supper will be February 1st!

The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, January 25th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Hap Hedges.

The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
