Chester Leo Ellebracht of Mason passed away at his home on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 18 days.
He was born on November 21, 1929, in Art, Texas, to Daniel Alexander Ellebracht and Annie Fischer Ellebracht. He attended school at Art and Blue Mountain and graduated from Mason High School. From 1947 until 1951 he worked as a cashier at the Mason National Bank.
From March 15, 1951, through March 15, 1953, he served in the Army, stationed at Camp Gordon, Georgia, during the Korean War. He returned to Mason National Bank upon completion of his Army duty and he worked his way up to Vice President. He served on the bank’s Board of Director’s for 34 years, retiring in December, 1993, after 54 years in the banking business.
Chester was a member of the American Legion Post 285 for 53 years. There he served as Adjutant and Finance Officer. He also served as President of the local American Red Cross chapter for many years. On November 8, 1961, he married Martha B. Whetstone, along with her two daughters, Roberta Lea and Doris Elaine. To this union was also born a son, Daniel Floyd Ellebracht. He enjoyed ranching, playing “42” and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed being around his grandchildren.
Chester Ellebracht is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Ellebracht of Mason; one son: Daniel Ellebracht of Mason and two daughters: Roberta Lea Glaser and her husband Mike of Marble Falls and Doris Elaine Hill of Cedar Hill. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Tompall Glaser of Dripping Springs, Seth Glaser of Marble Falls, Wendy Hill of Flower Mound, Tracy Hill of Hyde Park, New York, Emily Ellebracht, Ty Ellebracht, Brianna Ellebracht and Chris Anderson, all of Mason. Also surviving is one brother: James Ellebracht of Mabank and one sister: Ruth Birdson of Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Daniel Alexander Ellebracht, Jr.
Funeral services with military honors for Chester Ellebracht will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home chapel with interment following at Gooch Cemetery. Visitation with the family was on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home.
