DENVER - Aspen Martin of Mason sold a Champion Junior Market Goat for $2250 at the National Western Stock Show's Auction of Junior Livestock Champions on January 21st. The winner bidder of the animal was Peerless, Inc. Aspen's sister, Sierra Jade Martin, sold a Grand Champion Junior Market Goat for $11,000 at the show. The winning bidder of that animal was Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.
97 animals, steers, lambs, hogs and goats, sold for approximately $423,800 at the 2011 auction.
Ten percent of each winning bid will be contributed to the National Western Scholarship Trust that supports 74 agribusiness and rural medical scholarships at universities and community colleges throughout Colorado and Wyoming. This year, the contribution totaled approximately $42,380.
More than 1930 animals from 25 to 30 states competed in the national junior competition.
