The big chill.

Deep freeze.

Sleet and ice.

Frozen tanks.

Busted pipes.

Emergencies.

Local heroes.

Such as Mason Building Supply & Rental.

They stayed open till the last person got what they needed.

Even if it had to take all night.

They finally closed at 10 p.m.

Normally they close at 6.

Saturday they stayed open till the last person got what they needed.

Which wasn’t till 6 p.m.

Normally they close at 2.

Like a good neighbor, Mason Building Supply was there.

Doing what needed to be done.

Showing how a small town works.

Proving we’re all in this together.

Making sure no one was left out in the cold.

Literally.

They deserve the Business of the Year award.

And Tennile Kothmann deserves the Business Woman award.

She and Teresa offer exemplary service.

(So does Keven and the others).

But those two women run the show.

They’re professional.

Consistent.

Steady.

Thorough.

Knowledgeable.

Patient.

Committed.

Friendly.

Helpful.

And always with a smile.

Who needs Home Depot?

We’ve got our own hometown depot right here.

Just south of the square.

Save yourself the drive.

And the gas.

And the time.

And the headache.

Stop in and check it out.

If they don’t have it, they’ll order it.

At no extra charge.

And while you’re waiting, you can visit with those you know.

Which doesn’t happen in the big city.

That’s Mason.

Renee Walker is an author, poet, and real estate broker on the square.
