Wednesday, February 16, 2011 • Posted February 16, 2011

The 8th Grade Punchers picked up a close victory last week when they took on the Eagles from Johnson City, in the first game of the tournament. The Eagles had beaten the Punchers earlier in the year 28-31.

The Punchers jumped quick outscoring Johnson City 9-6 in the first quarter, and lead 19-13 at the break. The third quarter was relatively even 6-7 in favor of the Eagles, but the game got tight late in the period when the Eagles made a run of 6-9, but the Home Town boys hung on for a 31-29 win.

In Game two of the tournament, the Punchers took on Center Point. Center Point had beaten Medina in the first round.

The Punchers found themselves chasing in the first stanza 6-10, but made up some ground in the 2nd period outscoring Center Point 6-3 and playing some very good half-court defense. The Pirates lead by one point at the end of the 3rd quarter, then rallied in the fourth outscoring the Punchers 9-10 and winning the number one trophy, 27-29.

The Punchers would like to thank everyone that helped with the District Tournament. A special thanks to those in charge of the concession, gates, books and clock, and all of the coaches that helped put on well organized tournament.
