From the Librarian’s Shelf . . .
Wednesday, February 23, 2011 • Posted February 23, 2011

First, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the Friends of the Library for organizing the Welcome Reception, to the Library Board and the Mason Study Club members who assisted, to everyone who attended, and to those of you who have welcomed me in other ways. I feel blessed to be here. Second, some of you may not realize that we now have a growing selection of DVD movies! You have the same two-week check-out as you enjoy for books, but, of course, you must have a library card. During your next visit, be sure to take a look. The following titles are just a tiny sampling of our holdings.

DVDs: (All quotes are from the publishers’ summaries)

Foyle’s War (DVDTVFOYSet1)

"Michael Kitchen (Out of Africa) stars as Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Foyle in this original PBS Masterpiece Theatre mystery series. Set in the beautiful southern English countryside amid the disorder and danger of World War II, Foyle’s War takes place far from the glory of the front. His is an ordinary struggle, against everyday evil, in extraordinarily dangerous times."

Temple Brandin (DVDMPTEM)

"An engaging portrait of an autistic young woman who became, through timely mentoring and sheer force of will, one of America’s most remarkable success stories."

Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore (DVDMPCAT)

"In the eternal battle between cats and dogs, one crazed feline has taken things a paw too far. Former elite agent Kitty Galore has gone rogue and plans to unleash a diabolical device designed to not only bring her canine enemies to heel but also to take down her former kitty comrades and make the world her scratching post."

NEW BOOK ARRIVALS: (All quotes are from the publishers’ summaries)

A Lonely Death by Charles Todd (FTOD)

"Scotland Yard detective Ian Rutledge returns to solve his most exciting and shocking case yet. Three men have been murdered in a Sussex village, and Scotland Yard has been called in. It’s a baffling case. The victims are soldiers who survived the horrors of World War I only to meet a ghastly end in the quiet English countryside two years later."

Tick Tock by James Patterson (FPAT)

"NYC’s #1 detective, Michael Bennett, has a huge problem—the Son of Sam, the Werewolf of Wisteria, and the Mad Bomber are all back. The city has never been more terrified!"

Final Justice by Fern Michaels (FMIC paperback)

"The seven women of the Sisterhood . . . have risked everything in the name of justice, including their own freedom. Their most recent mission promised to reward them with a presidential pardon and a chance to leave their enforced exile. But before they can enjoy their prize, they’ll have to tackle a risky new mission in the heart of Sin City."
