Food.

Not so simple anymore.

So many questions surround it.

Paper or plastic?

Sweet or unsweetened?

Medium or rare?

Hot tea or iced tea?

Spicy or mild?

Red or green sauce?

With or without cheese?

Mayonnaise or mustard?

Chips or fries?

Regular bun or Texas toast?

Small, medium, or large?

Is that for here or to go?

Smoking or non-smoking?

How many in your party?

Which reminds me…

We used to give the restaurant hostess a last name like Beach or Slumber.

When our table was ready, they would have to announce:

"Beach Party of 4, Beach Party of 4."

Or "Slumber Party of 6, Slumber Party of 6."

Cheap thrills is right.

Back to food.

Can’t live without it.

Nor without all the questions.

Food servers ask them all day long.

How do you want your eggs?

What would you like to drink?

How do you want that cooked?

Rice or baked potato?

Butter and sour cream?

More water?

Did everybody save room for dessert?

Is this together or separate?

Cash or credit card?

Yep, you’d be hard-pressed to go hungry in this town.

Cooper’s BBQ.

Santos Taqueria.

The Cat’s Meow.

Willow Creek Café.

Square Plate.

Northside Café.

Short Stop.

Town and Country.

Zavala’s.

GiGi’s.

Texas Deadwood BBQ.

Mason Donut.

Dairy Queen.

Tres Amigos.

Old Peanut Mill.

And now on the square…PJ’s.

Cream and sugar?

That’s Mason.
