Hospital Foundation Preparing for Gala XIV
Wednesday, March 9, 2011 • Posted March 9, 2011

Planning is well underway for Hill Country Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Friends of the Hospital Gala XIV: Puttin’ on the Ritz—Celebrating the Remarkable Journey.

Set for Oct. 15, from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., the event will be held at the ranch of the late Dr. Dor and Mrs. Virginia Brown, who were faithful supporters of the hospital. Dr. Brown was with HCMH for 32 years, and served the community for 56 years as a physician, and Mrs. Brown chaired the first six galas.

The gala coincides with the hospital’s 40th anniversary celebrations and honors its "remarkable journey" from 1971 to the present. Gala XIV will benefit the conversion of hospital semi-private rooms to single patient rooms as part of the Hill Country Memorial (HCM) mission of providing remarkable care.

HCM CEO Michael R. Williams, MD, said the remodeled rooms will optimize privacy, facilitate better communication between patients and health care professionals and offer an atmosphere better suited for family members to participate in the healing process. The update will include a fresh design with new paint, lighting, furnishings and equipment. The total cost is estimated to be $1.2 million or $30,000 per room.

The Gala XIV steering committee has set the diamond underwriting level at $30,000 to coincide with the cost of converting one room. In recognition of these gifts, the hospital will place donor-recognition plaques by the door of each renovated room.

"The hospital has long contemplated all single patient rooms," Dr. Williams said. "Our mission is remarkable care, and we recognized single patient rooms go hand-in-hand with the fulfillment of our mission. We are grateful for the gala committee and everyone who is helping make this a reality."

The gala will be preceded by a daytime celebration, Friday, Oct. 14, at Boot Ranch, five miles north of Fredericksburg, on Milam Street. Attendees can make reservations to enjoy a brunch at 9:30 a.m. or a lunch at 1:30 p.m. Each seating will be limited to 100 guests.

Estela and James Avery are chairmen of the gala steering committee with Neal and Penny Reeh as co-chairmen.
