Helen Mary Meuth Richter, 95, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into reunion with her heavenly family on Friday, April 1, 2011. Born October 18, 1915, at her family home near Grassyville, "Ellie" was the fourth of five children born to Frank and Mary Steinbach Meuth. She married Emil Gustav Richter on September 17, 1933, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Smithville. Three children were born to this union – Rose Marie, Emil Gustav, Jr., and Kathleen Helen. They owned and operated Richter’s 5&10 in downtown Giddings for almost 50 years, and were active members of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, where Helen was a member and past president of the Alter Society.
Mrs. Richter was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her brother Christian Meuth, her sisters Annie Just, Cecilia Hoelscher, and Verna Lee Petzold, and her granddaughter Annette Rose Thies.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Rose and Howard Thies, Emil and Mary Richter, and Kathy and Ted Kerr; grandchildren Marian Smith, and husband Randy, Jim Richter, and wife Janice, Sharon Morrison, and husband Bob, Greg Richter, and wife Debbie, John Thies, and wife Pam, Steven Richter, and wife Marisa, Karen Davis, and husband Joe, Kimberly Van Devender, and husband Eric, Reese Kerr, and wife Serena, Marcus Kerr, and wife Marcel, and Scott Kerr; and great-grandchildren Janielle Thies, Jason Thies, Jarek Thies, Kristin Davis, Hunter Davis, Stephanie Morrison, Alexa Morrison, Miranda Smith, Lauren Richter, Kristen Richter, Kate Richter, Beth Richter, Steven Michael Richter, Kevin Richter, Jason Richter, Kyle and Kelly Van Devender, T.R. Kerr III, Matthew Kerr, Bailan Kerr, Marek Kerr, and Manley Kerr.
Funeral Services for Helen Mary Richter, 95, of Giddings, were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday April 4, 2011, at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Jim Olnhausen and Monsignor Louis Woznizk officiating.
Burial followed in the Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in the Pin Oak Community. Visitation was held on Sunday April 3, 2011 from Noon until 9 p.m. and on Monday April 4, 2011 from 7a.m. till 10:00 a.m. at the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A Rosary was held on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family would like to acknowledge her caregivers, especially Emma, Natalie, and Monica, the staff of Lost Pines Nursing Home in Bastrop, and the staff of Resolutions Hospice, which provided care in her last days on earth. In lieu of flowers the family requests you contribute to the St. Margaret’s Alter Society or the charity of your choice.
