Wednesday, April 13, 2011 • Posted April 13, 2011

The Cowgirl golf season has been a little lonely this year with senior Jenny Smith and sophomore Katherine Koock the only Mason female players. Jenny has been shooting consistently in the low to mid 90’s and Katherine has steadily brought her scores down from 115 to 101. Last week, the District golf tournament was held at the Flying “L” golf course in Bandera. Borrowing Samantha Jordan from Paul Smith’s tennis team and Alex Martinez from Russell Joy’s track team, we now had enough players to form a team. The Cowgirls took First Place honors shooting 466. Jenny was second medalist with a 98, Katherine fifth medalist with a 109, Samantha was seventh medalist and Alex Martinez tie for sixteenth place. The golfers felt like poor little piglet on a very blustery day. The wind was blowing so hard that it was blowing the flag poles out of there holes. Northside ISD hosted a tournament at the TPC San Antonio Resort where the Texas Open was held last year. What a treat! The Punchers played a very competitive schedule this year against much larger schools. Freshman Jeffery Williams lead the way most of the season until AJ Martinez was able to join up after basketball season was over. One of the high lights for the Punchers was winning the Puncher Open back in early March. At district, the Punchers finished first, one shot over Medina. AJ Martinez was second medalist with a score of 89, Jeffery Williams was third shooting 91, Tyler Chew ninth with a score of 100, TJ Schovasja tied for tenth shooting 101, Matt Hyden tied for thirteenth with a 106, Matt Clark placed fifteenth shooting a 107 and rounding out the medalist players were Chris Gray and Jansen Rychlick.Mason First Place 381Medina Second Place 382D’Hanis Third Place 415Brackett Fourth Place 448The Mason Golf Team will be traveling to Brenham to compete in the Regional Tournament on April 18th and 19th.ger/apr 13 puncher golf
