Texas Library Association's 2011 Bluebonnet Award Luncheon

Jackson Chapman, a sixth grade student at Mason Elem./Jr. High, represented Texas School Children from District 1 at the Texas Bluebonnet Award Luncheon during the Texas Library Association Conference in Austin. On April 14th, Willy Claflin, author of The Uglified Ducky, accepted the award and spoke to over 1100 Texas Librarians.Jackson and nine other young Texans took part in the presentation on behalf of the 187,846 students who voted in an election to choose the favorite Bluebonnet Book of 2011. All ten students interviewed Mr. Claflin and James Stimson, illustrator of the Uglified Ducky, before the luncheon and received an autographed copy of the winning book. Other guests at the awards ceremony included Jackson’s parents, Shain and Michelle Chapman; sisters Grace and Linden; grandparents, Jerry and Suzanne Chapman; Elementary Principal, Mrs. Tammy Parrish; Junior High Principal, Mr. Clint Askins; and Elementary/Junior High Library Aide, Mrs. Sue McCully.
