The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, May 17th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 33 members and one visitor in attendance. Lion Melvin McCallum was responsible for the program and he gave a short, very interesting program about the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. flag.He said that Francis Bellamy wrote the original in 1892, and that it has had four changes since then. Melvin read the pledges and gave the dates that they were changed, which was mainly with the wording in each. He also demonstrated the correct way to stand and salute when saying the pledge. The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, May 24th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be John Palacio. The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
