Mason 6th Grade Beginner Band wins "Best in Class" in New Braunfels

The Mason Puncher 6th Grade band won the award for “Best in the Class” at the Schlitterbahn Sound Waves Music Festival held in New Braunfels on May 14. The Band received 1st Division ratings from all three judges and was chosen as the “Best” band for Class C Beginner Bands. Judges were Anna Zientek, from New Braunfels, Melissa Townsend from San Marcos and Penny Compton from San Antonio. The judges were very impressed with the award winning band and commented: “Band, you play with a great, confident sound”, “Percussion, good job today!! Good job low winds!”, “Keep the fine work going, you guys are doing well! I enjoyed hearing you!” The Band performed the songs “Zap” by Grice and “Power Rock” by Sweeney. The Puncher Band program is led by head director Pat Ruiz and assisted by John Tapley. Numerous chaperones/parents accompanied the 6th grade band beginning at 4:30 a.m. and concluding at 11 p.m. during a fun filled day of performing and then enjoying the day at Schlitterbahn.
