June’s here.School’s out.Hot town.Summer in the city.103 degrees in May.Whoa.Too hot to talk about.Now what.Read.The Mason County Library awaits thee.It beckons with books.Row after row.Lots and lots of books.Comfortable chairs.And air-conditioning.Or stay outside.Ride.Your horse.Or your bike.Feel that (warm) breeze.Go fish.Or jump in a lake.Frolic in water.Or paddle your way down the Llano River.The Great Castell Kayak Race takes place this coming Saturday, June 4.Don’t forget sunscreen and bottled water.And a hat.And sunglasses.Otherwise it could be the Great Castell Kayak Roast.A peck of barbecued paddlers.A bunch of roasted kayakers.A stream of steamed river rats.A river full of toast.Begins at the bridge on Highway 87 south (at Llano River RV Park).Registration starts at 6 a.m.Race starts at 9 a.m.Ends 12 miles downriver.At RiverSounds Recording Resort in Castell.Food, prizes, and live music.Bring the whole family.This event raises money for Chemo Sabe, a non-profit community organization promoting cancer survival through music and music therapy.Row, row, row your boatGently down the stream.Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily…Life is but a dream.That’s Mason.
