To quilt.Or not to quilt. That is the question. For many, it’s a no-brainer.Quilt!Of course. And that’s what a dozen women do every week.Meet for quilting camaraderie. And a patchwork of conversation:Husbands.Health.Children.Grandchildren.In-laws.Friends.Work.Pets.Whatever.The group thought it should name itself. But no one can decide.Mason Quilt Bee.Monday Night Quilters.Nobody really cares.Keep it simple. No association dues.Or Board of Directors. No rules to follow. No law and order here.No sir.The gathering is more like a quilt.Put together with this and that.Variety and variation.Form and format changes weekly. As does attendance. The group loosens up as they tighten their stitches.Conversations unwind like spools of thread.Laughter and rapport act as bobbin holding it all together. And among this loose group are serious quilters. And award winners. One being Carolyn Biggs. She took Third Place at the prestigious Kerrville Quilt Guild for her quilt of Celtic appliqués.And also received the “Best Machine Quilting” award for the same quilt. Way to go.Congratulations.And for those who sew and don’t know…Currey’s Fabrics and Hinckley’s General Store carry fabric, thread, and other sewing notions. As my Great-Aunt Jimmie used to say:“You reap what you sew.And as you sew, so shall you rip.”That’s Mason.Renee Walker is an author, poet, and real estate broker on the square.
