So long, local business.Hill Country Video is no longer.Ginger hung in there for a long time. And times changed. Now we can get movies online. On our computer. On our iPhone. On our iPad.Or stream-fed into our TV.Stream-fed sounds nice all by itself. As in, running water.Abundant moisture.Babbling brook.Live water.Year-round creek.Full lake.Tank overflowing. The river is rising.Which brings to mind W.C. Fields. He plops down in a rowboat that begins to sink.Water reaches above his waist.Unphased, he comments in that famous nasal lilt:“The river is RISing.”W.C. Fields.Mae West. The Marx Brothers.Charlie Chaplin.Making people laugh. They say you can judge a cuisine by its soup.Perhaps you can judge a culture by its humor.Or lack thereof. Some countries seem to be funnier than others.France produces funny films.Such as Pardon Mon Affaire and La Cage aux Folles.British humor is well known.Canada continually churns out comedians. Many of which end up in this country.Laughter prevails.George Burns & Gracie Allen.Johnny Carson, Steve Allen.Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Jonathan Winters.Lucille Ball, Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller.Red Skelton, Sid Caesar, Chris Rock.Milton Berle, Jack Benny, Billy Crystal.Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Flip Wilson.Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin, Don Rickles.Jackie Gleason, Jeff Foxworthy, Bob Hope.To name only a few.Today more and more comedians enter the limelight.Comedy clubs proliferate. So do comedy movies. We even have a Comedy Channel on TV.We, the People, are committed to laughing.Wanting to laugh.Needing to laugh.Making others laugh.Past, present, and into the future.Laughter IS the best medicine. That’s Mason.
