Wednesday, June 15, 2011 • Posted June 15, 2011

On June 19th, Wade Powell will follow in the footsteps of his great, great, great grandfather, Rev. Conrad Pluenneke and become the pastor of Hilda United Methodist Church. Wade and his family are excited to return to the congregation that they were a part of for over 12 years since moving to Mason County in 1998. Wade grew up in Wall, TX hoeing cotton on his parents farm. He graduated from Wall High School and Angelo State University with a degree in communications. Wade worked as a television producer and news anchor before starting a financial advisory firm that he owned for thirteen years. Shortly after Wade married his wife, Cindy, they moved to Mason County and began attending Hilda United Methodist Church. Eventually, Wade became the Lay Leader of the congregation filling in to preach for Rev. Jim McWilliams during his illness. Wade was then made Director of Lay Speaking for the San Angelo District of the United Methodist Church, followed by an appointment as District Lay Leader for the San Angelo district. Through the years, Wade has also served on the Southwest Texas Conference Board of Laity and District Council on Ministries. His years of leadership as laity within the church led to a formation and transition to clergy. In May of 2010, Wade graduated and received his license for pastoral ministry from Bishop Dorff of the Southwest Texas Conference. He was then appointed as the pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Castell where he served until his current appointment at Hilda UMC. Wade is a candidate to receive his Masters of Divinity in 2013.Wade’s family is made up of his wife, Cindy, and children: Afton, Sara, and Ethan. Cindy grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Churchill High School, and received a degree in Business Administration from Angelo State University. She currently works as the ACE coordinator at Mason ISD. Their daughter, Afton, graduated from Mason High School in 2006 and is a senior at Texas A&M University studying civil engineering. Sara will be going into 7th grade and is excited about cheerleading and athletics. Ethan will be a 5th grader and says his favorite sport is football, or basketball, or tennis, or probably baseball, or football…. I don’t know, I love ‘em all!“We are excited about returning to Hilda UMC. It’s where Cindy and I were married, our children were baptized here, and it’s where I received my call to ministry. Of course, I have been reminded by several people that even Jesus had difficulty serving in his hometown… But Jesus’ hometown was not Hilda, Texas! I’m comforted to know that I am coming to a church that loves my family as much as we love them.” Worship services at Hilda UMC are at 11:00 AM Sunday mornings, with Sunday School at 10:00 AM. The church is located about fifteen minutes from Mason. Take Highway 87 South toward Fredericksburg and turn right onto Ranch Road 783, continue about four miles and turn left onto Loeffler Ln. The church is just ahead on Loeffler Lane.
