From Dickens to Dickinson.From Allen to Alvin.From all parts of Texas.They’re all coming this way.Because nowhere is anywhere like here.And we got our own special sights of summer.Painted Buntings.Pickup loaded with watermelon.Brown grass.Green leaves.Lizard here.Rattlesnake there.Copperhead (shot dead).Fawn.Bales, bought and sold.Bare feet.Or sandals.With painted toes.Dusty dirt roads.Strict blue sky.The river, much lower.The tank, much drier.Electricity off.Then on.Off, then on.Till every clock flashes the time.Irrigated fields.Grapes on the vine.Reset the clocks.Rain on the way.Or so they say.Putter on the golf course.Putter around the house.Hot as August.And that’s no lie.Mason National Bank’s thermometer says so.Come in out of the heat.Sit a spell.Watch the sky.Count the clouds.Soak the garden.Soak your feet.Make ice tea.Potato salad.Cole slaw.Guacamole.Get barbecue from Texas Deadwood.Wine from Sandstone Cellars.Relax.Enjoy.
