Mary Lee Kothmann Thomas

Mary Lee Kothmann Thomas, beloved wife and mother, died on June 22, 2008, in Houston, Texas. Born on September 22, 1932, in Frio County, Texas, Mary Lee was the second of six children born to Evelyn and Ryland Kothmann. She grew up in Mason, Texas, in the Texas Hill Country. She was preceded in death by her daughter Janet Lee Gary, her brother R.B. Kothmann and her parents.

Mary Lee is survived by her loving husband Horace F. Thomas; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Bo Howard and Sandra and Rich Cordova; grandchildren Zach and Ben Howard and Kathryn and Caroline Cordova; and great grandchild, Bella James Marquez. She is also survived by brother Billy Kothmann and sister-in-law Marsha; sister Nonie Stringer; sister Barbara Pluenneke and brother-in-law Charles; sister Sue Carol McKnight and brother-in-law John; and sister-in-law Jim Kothmann. Also surviving are Mary Lee’s stepdaughters Cindy Thomas, Lori Thomas, Bonnie Faltin and husband Steve and their son Spencer; stepson Kenneth Thomas and wife Vicki and their sons Kyle, Jess and Scott; her daughters’ father, Tudor Gary, his wife Mary, and many other relatives, dear ones and friends.

Mary Lee graduated from Mason High School and Sul Ross University. She lived and taught school in Crystal City, Texas. In her later years she moved to Houston, Texas where she remained active in the community. She served on the Advisory Board of the Houston Area Parkinson’s Society, and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a woman of deep faith and was an active member of Hilda United Methodist Church, Castell United Methodist Church and St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston.

Throughout her life, Mary Lee loved the outdoors, particularly fishing and tennis. She loved to dance, enjoyed music and was an avid bridge player. She was a generous, thoughtful woman always encouraging and supportive of family and friends.

Mary Lee’s family would like to thank her caregivers Teresa Flores and Adelina Ayala for their kind and committed service.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2008 5-7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home, 204 Post Oak Street, Mason, Texas 76856. The funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Hilda Methodist Church, W Hwy 87 on FM 783, Hilda, Texas.
