The Friends of Gillespie County Country Schools invite you to visit a country school once attended by our parents and grandparents and see first hand how it “used to be” in the 19th and 20th century.Bring the kids and let them experience life before video games.Former students and community people will be available to share school stories from the past. Refreshments will be available.The Luckenbach School is located on the year round Gillespie County Rural Schools Trail at 3566 Luckenbach Road, within 1 mile from downtown Luckenback, Texas. Look for the banner.First log schoolhouse built in 1855, a native limestone addition in 1881. A new limestone school built in 1905. Limestone hauled from a quarry near the school. The limestone teacherage built in 1860’s. A Texas Historical Commission Marker is located there and the school is also on the National Register of Historic Buildings. An old-fashioned school bell summoned the children to class at 9 a.m. During recess the children played games such as Andy-over, Stink Base, Dodge Ball, Drop the Hankie, Kick the Can, Volleyball, and Baseball.Come join us for an educational tour of the Luckenbach School once attended by the earlier generations.
