The 9th Annual Mason Open Car Show was well attended by folks from all over Central Texas. There were approximately 55 antique, custom, and classic vehicles on display at Heritage Park. The car clubs in attendance were the Lakes Area Antiques and Classics and The Mustang owners Club of Austin. The entry fee was a donation of non perishable food, or a cash donation to the Mason County Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.
Local winner of the Peoples Choice Award was Scott Zesch with his 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible. The Best of Show award went to Jim and Carrie Eplen’s 1934 Ford Sedan Delivery. This year’s awards also included a Best Muscle Car Trophy that was given by Rick and Debbie Smith in memory of Kade Kothmann. His parents Karlos Bill and Sheba selected the winner of this award. It went to the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge owned by Bill Lehr of Marble Falls.
We would like to thank the following local businesses for their support in sponsoring the trophies and plaques awarded. Those businesses were Mason National Bank, First State Bank, The Commercial Bank, Short Stop Grocery, and Watson Auto Parts, who also donated an automotive cleaning kit that was given to the Best of Show winner. Also thanks to William and Patricia Beatty for their help with the trophies and plaques. And last but not least, thanks to the folks that get there early and stay late to help with the set up and tear down— Rick & Debbie Smith, Karen & Bobby Scantlin, Don Metz, Brian Pulis, Bob White, Thom Frazier, and Lee Page.
