Maribelle had a good report on her progress of her treatments. Stephen Mutschink honored our congregation by filling in for Pastor Cliff. Thank you, Stephen. Stephen Mutschink preached about “The Weeds and the Wheat” using the Gospel lesson from Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43. The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while he was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds that resembled wheat (darnel) in the field and went away. Both the wheat and the weeds came up in the field. The servants came to the owner and asked “Did you not sow good seed in the field? How then does it now have darnel in it?” The owner replied “An enemy has done this.” The servants asked if he wanted the weeds pulled up. The owner said “No, lest in gathering the weeds you pull up some wheat also. Let them grow together. At harvest time, the reapers will gather the weeds and bundle them to be burned. The wheat will then be gathered into my granary”.Jesus’ disciples asked Him to explain the parable. Jesus said “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man (Jesus). The field is the world, the good seed are the children of the Kingdom and weeds are the children of the evil one. The enemy who sowed the weeds is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age and the reapers are the angels. At the end of the ages, the angels will gather the weeds and they will be burned. The Son of Man will send the angels to gather all persons by whom others are drawn into error or sin and all who do iniquity and act wickedly. They will be cast into the furnace of fire where there will much grinding of teeth and weeping and wailing. Those in right standing with God will shine forth like the sun in the Kingdom of the Father. Let him who has ears (to hear) be listening and let him consider and perceive and understand what he hears. We cannot cut the evil out of our lives. If we destroy the evil, we will also hurt the good people. We are to wait for the harvest. God is in charge of the harvest. The church must not focus on weeding. Jesus lived in the midst of sinners. God may be concerned about the weeds we would pull up. The final separation will be done by the angels. God’s purpose is redemption. Follow Jesus. Only He knows who the weeds are. Can the weeds become wheat? YES! God will help you become wheat.Wait for the harvest. God knows who is wheat and who is weed. Do not judge others; God will do that, Work to become wheat.
