Wednesday, August 3, 2011 • Posted August 3, 2011

Hertha Mae Lange was born July 28, 1921, in the home of her parents near the Doss/Onion Creek communities in Gillespie County. She was the third child of four born to Ernest Lange and Meta Geistweidt Lange. At the age of eight, her parents moved the family to a ranch nine miles west of Mason, Texas near the Streeter community. It was in this ranch environment and with loving direction from her parents, and their regular involvement at the Baptist Church, where she learned the importance of Biblical values; such as covenant commitment, unconditional love, and a clear understanding of right and wrong. She was a dear sister in Christ and put high importance on her salvation through Jesus. In 1943, she left Mason and married Roy Priess. Their first home was in Cincinnati, Ohio, and that began a thirty-three year career in the airline industry. During this time, their son, Eddie Wayne, was born in Fort Worth in 1947. Hertha took her homemaking job seriously providing hot meals, and loving support for her dear husband and son. Attending church was always a priority. Their Fort Worth area home was open to many visits from family members and Eddie Wayne’s friends. Unconditional love and hospitality were Hertha’s trademark. A second career started in 1975 when they moved back to Mason to take up ranching. Hertha and Roy were a team at whatever they did from feeding cattle or picking green beans. She was totally dedicated to Roy, enjoying sixty-one years of marriage until his death in 2004. Hertha was all about love and family, and she was blessed with three wonderful grandchildren and one great grandson. She also loved to keep up with her many nephews and nieces. She lived in her home in Mason until falling and injuring her back in April of this year. She spent the last three months at Windcrest Nursing Center in Fredericksburg where she experienced loving and compassionate care from the staff and from her long time family physician Dr. Leo Tynan. She died on July 25, 2011, as she was approaching her 90th birthday. Hertha is survived by her son Eddie Wayne and wife Cindy Priess of Mason, TX, one granddaughter Ashley Priess Horn and husband Ramsey Horn of Henderson, NV, two grandsons Stephen Moreland of San Antonio and Austin Priess of Mason, one great grandson Grayson Horn of Henderson, NV. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Frances Priess and Imogene Lange of Mason and one brother-in-law Robert Priess Jr. of Hobbs, NM, and of course numerous nephews and nieces who she dearly loved. In addition to her parents, Hertha was preceded in death by her three brothers (Belmore, Willie, and Raymond), a daughter-in-law Anne Strain Priess, and her beloved husband Roy. Funeral services for Mrs. Priess were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, in the Mason Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed at the Gooch Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Lange, Danny Priess, Jeff Rucker, Jerry McCullough, Mark Lange, and Billy Johnson. Visitation with the family was held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Mason Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family on-line at
