Live pari-mutuel horse racing returns to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 13-14.Also taking place that weekend will be several livestock shows as well as a Fan Appreciation Day on Sunday, Aug. 14.The gates open at 11 a.m. and post time is 12 noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.On Saturday, admission to the grounds is $5 for adults, $1 for children six to 12 and free for children under six. There is no general admission charge to the grounds on Sunday. Qualifiers were determined during the Texas Fest Race Meet.Also on Saturday, trials will be run for the 350-yard GCFA Maiden Futurity, the GCFA Maiden Classic and the Manor Downs Derby. The finals will be run on Sunday, Aug. 28.Throughout the weekend, plenty of food and drink will be offered.The 2011 racing season will conclude with two days of racing on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27-28, as part of the 123rd Gillespie County Fair (Aug. 25-28).Livestock JudgingThree livestock competitions are planned over the weekend in the Show Barn at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds.The Meat Goat Futurity, sanctioned by the Junior Meat Goat Show Circuit, Inc., takes place on Saturday, Aug. 13. Showmanship starts at 9:15 a.m. followed by the show at 10 a.m.Then on Sunday, the Gillespie County Race Day Classic Steer Show, sanctioned by the Texas Junior Livestock Association, starts at 9 a.m. and judging in the Lamb Futurity starts at 10 a.m. The livestock shows are being held in conjunction with the upcoming 123rd Gillespie County Fair.123rd Gillespie County FairRounding out the 2011 summer schedule at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will be the 123rd Gillespie County Fair Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 25-28.Offered will be a carnival and midway, outdoor concerts and dancing, parade, queen’s contest, live pari-mutuel horse racing, agricultural and home products displays and more.Livestock judging continues during the fair.Featured entertainers at the Gillespie County Fair include Darrell McCall and The Tennessee Volunteers on Friday, Aug. 26.On Saturday, Aug. 27, Johnny Lee and The Urban Cowboys will be followed by Jason Boland and The Stragglers. Admission to the grounds that night after 6 p.m. will be $10 for adults, $5 for children six to 12 years and free for children under six. Both dances are scheduled for the outdoor pavilion from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.Pari-mutuel horse races will be run on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27-28, to conclude the 2011 racing season.
