Community Thrift Store Fighting the Dumps
Wednesday, August 17, 2011 • Posted August 17, 2011

This week several used furniture items were left behind the Community Thrift Store without consulting the store’s staff. Most of these items were not suitable for resale and needed to go to the dump. Additional clothing and other items were piled on the discarded furniture. Unfortunately loose items may be subjected to the whims of stray animals. Disposing of all of these things takes time and money and can be unpleasant. Recently several old mattresses were also left behind the store and had to be taken to the dump. The Mason Community Thrift Store thrives on donations from people In the community. Donated goods are sold for a small profit; and through the Mason Community Foundation these profits pay for grants to organizations in our community. Because of generous donations from many people The Mason Community Foundation has been able to give 38 grants totaling $ 132,000 to organizations which serve the people of Mason County. Donated goods can be brought to the Community Thrift Shop during store hours : Mon. to Fri. 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Sat. 10 to 4. The Community Thrift Shore does accept some furniture items. However people are requested to call ahead ( 347-6551 )regarding the suitability of these items and the current space limitations for their display at the shop. Smaller items can be left after hours. These items need to be boxed or bagged. The staff, volunteers, and Board of Directors appreciate your cooperation. We thank you for your donations and for shopping at the Community Thrift Store.
