As the saying goes:If you don’t like Texas weather…Wait 20 minutes. That’s what they used to say.As in, past tense.Because those days have passed. Now temperatures rise to 100 degrees or higher.Every day.And no change. Not in 20 minutes. Not in 20 hours. Not in 20 days.In fact, it’s more than 70 days now.A record-breaking spell.Seventy-plus days of triple digit temperatures. And little to no rain.Even a jackrabbit carries bottled water. What’s a body to do?Nuthin.’Let Nature take its course. We have no control. We can pray.Do rain dances.Wash our vehicles.Hang clothes out on the line.Water the yard.Paint the fence.Pour concrete. All in hopes the rains will come—And dampen our foolish ways. So hot.So dry.So thirsty.Stay hydrated.Get cold drinks from PJ’s.Ice cream, too.Cold beer from Super S (aka Lowes).Crisp white wine from Sandstone Cellars Winery.Coke and Dr. Pepper from Northside Café.Or Dairy Queen and Weber Chevron.GiGi’s and Stripes. The Short Stop and Nu-Way.Or ice teas and herbal drinks from The Green House.Keep your cool.Drink plenty of water.Add lots of ice.Linger at the open freezer.Stay cool. That’s Mason.
