Cancer Resource Center Offering Free 'Low Vision' Class

Hill Country residents who are living with “low vision,” as well as their caregivers and family members are invited to a free class designed to present practical tools and techniques in meeting the unique challenges of this form of vision impairment.Low vision is defined as a visual impairment that cannot be corrected by medical or surgical intervention and is severe enough to interfere with performance of daily living activities but allows some usable vision.The class will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 3 p.m., at the Hill Country Memorial (HCM) Cancer Resource Center in the Brune Professional Building, 808 Reuben Street in Fredericksburg.HCM Home Care occupational therapists Nicole Wienecke and Wendy Trousdale will share tips and strategies they learned during a recent workshop led by a nationally recognized expert in adaptation techniques for those with low vision. Also invited are community members who are able to share tips about products or procedures that have worked for them.Reservations are required and can be made by calling Donna Lafferty at the HCM Cancer Resource Center, 830-990-6648.
