Bull Riding Comes to Gillespie County Fair Grounds

A night of professional bull riding is coming to the Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg on Saturday, September 17, at 7:30 p.m. when the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, Inc., sponsors the Second Annual Fredericksburg PBR. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the opening ceremonies start at 7:30 p.m. Concession booths will also open at 5:30 p.m.The evening also includes live music and a dance after the bull riding featuring Jon Wolfe. The bull riding will take place on the track in front of the grandstand, and the chutes will be set up so that the bulls will ride out toward the grandstand. The premium section seating will be set up on the track.Approximately 35 to 40 riders are expected to compete in the event, which is part of the PBR’s Touring Pro Division. Riders are competing for points to earn spots in the PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas October 26-30.Among the riders scheduled to appear are Rusty Bruinsma and Chance Glocar of Harper. Other Texas riders include Reid Barker of Comfort, Jarrod Craig of Hillsboro, Daniel Jetton of Newton, Cody Johnson of Stephenville, Ethan Koch of Marion, Jason Malone of Pleasanton, Derek Powell of Kerrville, Juan Rodriguez of Laredo, Harve Stewart of Stephenville, Taylor Toves of Stephenville, James White of Houston, and Sterling Yancy of Gainesville.Also scheduled to appear are Cody Campbell of Summerville, OR, Brendon Clark of Hollister, CA, Nick Cocuzza of Auburndale, FL, Justin Koon of Grapevine, AR, Trevor Reiste, Linden, IA, Peyton Stewart of Charlotte, NC, Jamon Turner of Denver, CO, and Jimmy Twedt of Alden, IA.Other riders expected to participate are Paulo Crimber of Olimpia, SP. BZ, Jared Farley of Kempsey, NSW, Chapadao do sul MS, BZ, Rocky McDonald, Chihuahua, Mexico, Francisco Morales, Irapuato, Mexico, Jason O’Hearn of Rothbury, NSW, Alfonso Orozco, Salamanca, Guanajuato, Mexico, and Jesse Van Nek of Westwood, Qld.Sharing the arena with the bull riders will be professional rodeo clown and barrel man Leon Coffee.All of the participants will ride in the first round. From there, the top 10 riders will return for a second round to determine the champion.During the intermission between the two rounds, 15 youngsters will be competing in mutton busting. Mutton busting is open to youngsters ages four and up who weigh under 65 pounds. There is a $10 entry fee, and sign-up will take place prior to the start of the bull riding on Sept. 17.Tickets: Advance general admission tickets are $18 through 5 p.m. on Friday, September 16. After that, admission is $20. General admission pre-sale tickets are available at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds, Stroeher and Olfers, Lazy S Western Wear, Pro-Build, Arrowhead Bank and Lochte Feed and General Store in Fredericksburg. The tickets are also available in Llano at Arrowhead Bank. In addition, box seating is $40 and premium seating is $50. Box and premium seating tickets are only available at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds or by calling 997-2359. Tickets for children six to 12 years of age are $10 while children five and under will be admitted free. As a way of honoring servicemen and women, general admission for active military, law enforcement, emergency medical services personnel and firefighters (ID required) is $10.
