Now that football season, cross-country, and many other school activities are in full swing, I hope you will still encourage your children (or even take a few minutes yourself!) to read just for the fun of it each day. The library is also hosting several programs this week that I hope you can make. The Library Board’s Brown Bag luncheon in the Stribling Room on Thursday, Sept. 22, will feature a program about alternative approaches to good health. Your pre-schoolers are sure to enjoy Julie Gillespie reading during Story Time on Friday at 10:00, and your kids can catch a free movie after school next Monday, Sept. 26, at 3:45. We’ll be showing Cats and Dogs, rated PG. Hope to see you here!NEW ARRIVALS: (All quotes are from publishers’ summaries)DVDsMoonstruckVietnam: America’s ConflictSteel MagnoliasWhile You Were SleepingClose Encounters of the Third Kind and StarmanThe Phantom of the OperaRudyMiss CongenialityThe Great Indian Wars 1540-1890Young GunsNon-fiction:I’m Feeling Lucky: The Confessions of Google Employee Number 59 by Douglas Edwards (338.7 EDW)“An affectionate, compulsively readable recounting of the early years of Google . . .This lively, thoughtful business memoir is more entertaining than it really has any right to be, and should be required reading for startup aficionados.”—Publisher’s Weekly, starred reviewThose Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN by James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales (384.55 MIL)“Drawing on over five hundred interviews with the greatest names in ESPN’s history . . . and an all-star collection of some of the world’s finest athletes, bestselling authors James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales take us behind the cameras.”Fiction:Cold Vengeance by Preston & Child (PRE Pen.11)“Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution.
