The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, September 13th, for its regular weekly luncheon meeting. There were 38 members and two visitors in attendance. Lion Glenn Ruthven was responsible for the program, and introduced Jane Shoemaker and John Gillespie who spoke about the the Mason I.S.D. Education Foundation.The Foundation raises money to return to the teachers through a grant procedure, for teaching materials, supplies and other aids that are not purchased through the school district's budget. Last year, they awarded $16,000 through grants submitted from the local teachers and staff.The Foundation's main fund raiser is coming up on October 8th. It is their annual Washer Pitching Tournament, and will be held at the Community Building. A barbecue meal is part of the celebration, and they look forward to seeing everyone there!The club's next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 20th, at noon at Zavala's. The program chairman will be Thom Canfield.The Mason Lions has an ongoing program to recycle used eyeglasses to people who need them. Used eyeglasses may be given to any Lion or left in collection boxes at any of the local banks. Also, please contact any Mason Lion if you know of anyone in our community unable to afford appropriate eye care.
