Great American Jackass Race
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 • Posted July 2, 2008

The Great American Jackass Race is coming to town so gear up for one of the biggest attractions in Mason County!

The Race immediately follows the Sesquicentennial Parade on Saturday, July 12th during Mason’s 44th Roundup Rodeo Weekend. The parade begins at 10:00 am and the burros will began their trek around the Courthouse Square immediately after. Be sure to stay in your seats and away from the roadway following the parade for safety precautions. Also, keep in mind that the Sesquicentennial Parade will travel only one time around the square this year because of time constraints and the anticipated increase in parade participants.

The entry fee for the Jackass Race is $25 and participants may ride, lead, or drive their burro via cart to the finish line. The first place winner will receive a $500 cash prize and the traveling trophy will go to their hometown. The trophy currently belongs to Brown County in honor of last year’s winner, Charlie Gravell of Bangs, TX. There will also be cash prizes for second place and the “Best Dressed Burro.”

The jackasses must be GEN-U-WINE burros: No mules, hybrids, horses, or Mammoth Jacks will be allowed in the race and absolutely NO HOTSHOTS! Disqualified entries will forfeit their entry fee and all judge’s decisions are final.

Entry forms are available at the Mason County Chamber of Commerce located on the north side of the downtown square. So sign up NOW for the Great American Jackass Race or come watch the Race to find out who has the best Great American Jackass of 2008!
