Preliminary TAKS Scores in 2008 are Best Yet!

The Texas Education Agency has recently released preliminary TAKS scores for the 2007-08 school year. Early indicators show large discrepancies in relationship to regional and state scores. Mason ISD showed an overall improvement of two percentage points over last years scores.

The greatest gains over last year were in the core subject of math. The overall passing rate jumped from 93.5 to 95.3 percent. The state average stands at 76 percent. Math passing rates were also up 5.3 percent district wide and 16.2 percent above the state. Every student at Mason High School passed the English and social studies test. Mason ISD also had a 100 percent passing rate in writing.

Thirty eight percent of all students at Mason ISD scored in the Commended Performance range while only 21 percent achieved the level statewide.

Mason High School showed the largest discrepancies over state performance standards with student passing rates twenty percent or higher in the areas of Math and Science.
