I wanted to take the time to praise the citizens of Mason County for their generosity. As most of you know, areas around Austin, such as Spicewood, Steiner Ranch, and Bastop County have been destroyed by wildfires. The devastation is something most people cannot imagine. The number of people who “lost it all” is overwhelming to me. Though we may begrudge our addiction to social media, it has become one of the quickest ways to mobilize people to come to the aid of others. After I posted a request for wildfire victim assistance on Facebook, someone from Mason responded and asked what was needed. I do not know what type of items were gathered or the individuals that donated, but I know that a trip (maybe more) was made to our area to deliver the goods. The generosity continues even today as more needs are met. Every item, every dollar, and every prayer is helping someone. You may not see it directly, but you are making a difference from hundreds of miles away. The size of the town is not measured by its population, but by its heart. You guys are a metropolis in my book. I was always proud to call Mason my hometown and my pride has grown even more.
