Last year, the Mason High School community wanted to do something to show our appreciation to the supportive community who helped make the 2010 National Blue Ribbon School Award a reality for us. The students and staff members took part in a “Blue Ribbon Service Project.” We spent the day cleaning up what needs to be cleaned and sprucing up what needs to be “spruced!” It was such a huge success that we are going to do it again this year. WE have set the date for Blue Ribbon Service Day as October 19th from 8:00 am to 12:30. The students and teachers loved it, the community members who volunteered with us loved it, and most importantly, the people we helped loved it!Last year, our projects included constructing and installing a wheelchair ramp, cleaning up the trail at Ft. Mason Park, picking up trash on the streets and at White’s Crossing and James River Crossing, cleaning up and painting the playground equipment at Comanche Creek Park, and baking casseroles for the Mason County Food Bank. If you have ideas about how we can help make things in Mason look a little better or if any of you would like to volunteer with one of our teams, please contact school counselor Melany Canfield at 325-347-1122 ext 224 or email@example.com or Technology Coordinator Merlina Gamel at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are especially interested in finding projects that would be suitable for a team of 5-10 high school students and could be completed in one school day.We are really excited about this opportunity to give a little something back to a community we love, and we look forward to hearing from you!
