The 8th Grade traveled to Baird this past week to meet the Olney Cubs. With storm clouds threatening, the Cubs did a nice job on their opening drive and scored from the Puncher 4 yard line. The PAT was good and Olney lead 8-0. The Punchers began their drive to try and answer the Cubs but fell short on a 4th and three attempt at the Cub 23 yard line. Olney took advantage of the situation and launched another drive that put them ahead by a score of 16-0 at half.In the third period, the Punchers bounced back with a lot better effort especially on defense. Luke Gillespie, Pedro Rivera, Jacob Moreno and Seth Hudson made several good stops during this period. Just as the 3rd period was winding down the Cubs scored again but the point after was stopped, leaving Mason behind 22-0. The offensive line then began a very good drive lead by, Daniel Parker, James Durst, Jacob Moreno and Nick Martin. Running backs Bibb, Hudson, Gilley and Dyer picked up valuable yardage and advanced the ball to the Cubs 18 yard line. Hudson then connected with Hofmann on the bootleg pass for the score with a little more than two minutes remaining.Olney was a big strong team and did a good job of breaking tackles and putting points on the board. Our guys showed a lot of character by hanging in the game and scoring near the end. Next week the Punchers will travel to Johnson City for a 6:00 kick off.
