The 8th Grade took on the Johnson City boys last Thursday in Johnson City. Both teams were able to move the ball during period one, but neither was able to light up the scoreboard.Several good defensive stands were made by the Punchers just before the half time break. Players to be noted were, Daniel Parker, Seth Brewer, Jonathan Gonzalez, and Samuel Dyer. As the period neared the end the Punchers put together a nice drive from the Eagle 42 yard line. Offensive linemen opened several good running lanes for our backs. Linemen on this drive included, James Durst, Tyler Mayfield, Nick Martin, Luke Gillespie, Pedro Rivera, and Andy Gilley. Hudson then connected with Levi Hofmann on the throwback for a 17 yard touch down. The PAT failed but the Punchers lead at half time 0-6.The 3rd period didn’t produce any scoring from either team but as the 4th period ticked away, the Mason boys put together another offensive drive that covered 63 yards and another score. Sam Dyer, Seth Hudson, Jacob Moreno, and Garret Bibb picked up valuable yardage as they moved the ball down the field. Several good down field blocks were made by Parker, Harris, and Bierschwaled as the Punchers neared the goal line. Bibb then followed his linemen in for the score from the Eagle 15 yard line. Hudson then read the option perfectly and pitched to Dyer for the point after, putting Mason in front 0-14. Good team win by everyone. Next week the Puncher take on the visiting Eagles from Eldorado.
