Mason Scores First District Win Over the Eagles

The Punchers traveled to Eldorado on Friday night and scored their first district win, and their seventh win of the 2011 season.The Punchers controlled the game, almost from the beginning of play. Eldorado has limited personnel this season, and has had trouble maintaining enough players to make for a successful year.David Mora scored two minutes into the game on a short four-yard run. Rio Schmidt's PAT was blocked, and the score was 6-0 with 9:55 remaining in the quarter.Just a few minutes later, Mora again scored for the Punchers on a short one-yard run. This time, Schmidt's PAT was good, and the score was 13-0 with 7:03 left in the quarter.With only 44 seconds left in the quarter, Chance Stockbridge took a 33-yard pass from Austin Trip for Mason's third touchdown of the night. Schmidt's PAT was good, and the score was 20-0.Early in the second quarter, David Mora provided the final four-yard carry for Mason's fourth touchdown of the night. Schmidt's kick was good, and the score was 27-0 with 10:30 left in the half.Half way through the quarter, Mora made one of his stunning 49-yard runs to score once again. Schmidt once again provided the PAT, and the score was 34-0 with 6:30 left in the half.With only one minute left in the half, Rio Schmidt would carry the ball in on a short one-yard drive. He also provided the PAT, and the score going into the half was 41-0.In the third quarter, Mason pulled back a bit to give the Eagles a chance to even the game; but, Eldorado was unable to capitalize on that generosity. Late in the quarter, Austin Trip carried in the ball on a short two-yard dive to put the score at 47-0. Schmidt provided the PAT, and the score was 48-0 with 3:30 left in the quarter.With only 38 seconds remaining in the quarter, Chance Stockbridge intercepted an Eldorado pass and ran it in 30 yards for the score. Schmidt again provided the PAT, and the score was 55-0.The fourth quarter saw the Punchers playing second and third string players, allowing younger players the opportunity to gain some much-needed experience. Eldorado was still unable to move the ball down the field, and the final score would still remain 55-0 at the final whistle.This week, Mason entertains Reagan County at the Puncher Dome. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
