Arlene McWilliams Cassens

Arlene Cassens, age 66, of Lampasas passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011, in a Temple Hospital. She was born September 13, 1945, in Brady, Texas, to Arles McWilliams and Lois (Hanson) McWilliams. She graduated from Mason High School in 1963. Then, she attended Business College in Wichita Falls. She married Larry Cassens on August 27, 1966. They were married for over 45 years.Arlene retired from civil service after 37 years of employment. During her life she enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with her daughter and grandson to numerous livestock shows. She cherished the time that she spent with Larry going to Ruidoso, New Mexico each summer. She loved shopping for antiques and other treasures with her numerous friends. Arlene was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lampasas, where she had served as a past church director and was instrumental in chairing the facilities committee during the remodeling of the church’s sanctuary. She was a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove. At Immanuel, she was a past director and member of the church’s ladies aide group. She not only coached city league softball, but she was a past 4-H youth leader, and a past member of both the Coryell County and Lampasas County Livestock Associations Ladies Auxiliary groups. For those who knew her, Arlene was very generous and was always there to help her family and friends at a moment’s notice. She was preceded in death by her parents. Arlene is survived by her husband, Larry Cassens; a daughter, Sheryl Bierschwale and a grandson, Blayze Bierschwale all of Lampasas; a brother, Rickey McWilliams of Mason; two sisters, Jimmy Nuckles of Burnet and Carolyn Mandel of Marble Falls. The Cassens family received guests for a time of visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Faith Lutheran Church, 182 County Road 4006, Lampasas, Texas 76550. Funeral services followed the visitation at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Lampasas with Pastor Tim Ochsner officiating. Cremation and a private family burial will follow the services at a later date. Serving as pallbearers were Blayze Bierschwale, Dusty Mahan, Bart McWilliams, Mike Mandel, Ronnie Bowen, and Mark Myogeto. Services have been entrusted to the care of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
