David Ernest Koerner, 87, of Lubbock, TX went to live his “true life with the Lord” on Sunday, October 30, 2011. He was born October 5, 1924, in Mason, TX. David was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He received the Purple Heart and an award for expert infantry. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years, was a deacon at Memorial Baptist Church, and coached little league baseball. David met Charlsey Mae Glenn, and they married on September 22, 1950. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage and loved to spend time traveling, fishing, watching baseball, and spending time with family. David’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, writing, drawing, woodwork and barbequing. David was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie R. and Iva L. Koerner, and two brothers, William Koerner and Curtis Koerner. He leaves behind his wife, Charlsey Mae Koerner, a sister, Celeta Lawrence and husband Charles, a brother, Alfred Koerner and wife Sue, two sisters in law, LaDonna Koerner and Elnora Koerner, a son, Gary Koerner and wife Pam of Shallowater, TX, a daughter, Barbara Peterson of Lubbock, TX, six grandchildren, Brandon Peterson and wife Julie, Sherrie Koerner, Annette Koerner, Jeff Koerner and wife Kimberly, Timothy Koerner and Kayla Koerner, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family received friends on November 1, 2011, between 6-8 PM at Rix Funeral Home in Lubbock, TX. A memorial service will take place at Rix Funeral Home on November 2, 2011 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity. David will be dearly missed by all of his friends and family.
