About thirty-five descendants of Johann Heinrich Conrad Pluenneke & his wife, Johanna Sophie Woberkind (Leifeste) Pluenneke, got together at Jan Appleby’s Hilda home for a barbecue dinner, visiting, and going through old family photos of the Pluenneke “clan” on Saturday, October 22nd. Folks attending came from the Dallas area, San Antonio, Brownwood, Bangs, Fredericksburg, Round Rock, and the Mason/Hilda area and were either fifth, sixth, or seventh generation descendants. Conrad and Sophie, leaving Germany separately with their families, both arrived in Galveston in 1846 and were transferred to Indianola where they first met. They married on August 23, 1847, in Fredericksburg. They later moved to the Beaver Creek area in Hilda and Conrad became a Methodist minister in 1850. They had eight children reaching adulthood and two of those were Heinrich Conrad (known as H. Conrad) and John Henry. Two of H. Conrad’s daughters were Augusta Amalia Eliesabaeth (Ellie) Pluenneke who became Mrs. August Emil Durst and Cornelia Ernestine Sofia (Nellie) Pluenneke who became Mrs. Frank Loeffler. One of John Henry’s sons was Henry Conrad (Harry) Pluenneke who was a long-time barber in Mason. The attendees at this reunion were from either H. Conrad & Lena (Weissemann) Pluenneke descendants or Harry & Henriette Fredericka (Lehmberg)Pluenneke descendants. If we could ever get all the Pluenneke descendants together just from the Mason area alone, there would probably be over one hundred! Anyway, we had a great time and hope to have another reunion in a couple of years.
