What could be a better reward than making a difference in a child’s life? A close second would be seeing that child’s face light up when he or she sees YOU, the new mentor he or she gets to have lunch with each week. The reward of being a special gift to a child is just waiting for you to claim it. Please consider giving 45 minutes of your time once a week to sit down with a student, visit over lunch, and maybe even play a game or two. It’s that simple…no strings attached or hidden expectations! You really only have to do it once a week for 45 minutes on the day of YOUR choice! Mentors are not expected to tutor or advise their student. They just have to spend a little quality time with their student and watch a unique relationship unfold. The truth is that mentoring is a gift you give, that gives as much to you as to the recipient. That’s just how mentoring works, so get ready to claim your reward and receive the gift that is in store for you! We currently have a WAITING list of students needing a mentor and an additional list of kiddos wanting one. Don’t worry about what to say or do…there is a brief 30-45 minute training required before you begin to help put you at ease. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Shanda Schmidt, Elementary/Jr. High Counselor, at 347-1122 or Lisa Heath, mentor coordinator, at 258-4472.
