Operation Orphans

Thirty boys from seven children's homes harvested 31 animals Saturday, November 19th with the Operation Orphans, Inc. "Take a Child Hunting" program. This was the second of four hunts which will take place this season.Homes bringing boys to hunt were: Methodist Boys Ranch, Waco; Texas Baptist Home, Waxahachie; Presbyterian Home, Waxahachie; Methodist Home Main Campus, Waco; Texas Pythian Home, Weatherford; Kidz Harbor, Liverpool; and, Presbyterian Home, Itasca. Animals harvested were 16 whitetail does, six spikes, one management buck, four hogs, one aoudad, one axis and two turkeys. Ranches hosting kids and their guides were: Farmer Ranch, Mason; High Lonesome, Mason; J&L Ranch, Mason; Karl Ransleben, Gillespie; Kurt Zesch Ranch, Mason; Operation Orphans game pasture, Mason; Pfueffer Land, Ltd., Schleicher; Woelfel Ranch, Mason; and, Wojtek Ranch, Concho. Two additional hunts will be held December 3 and January 7.Individuals preparing sack lunches were Rae Ann Martin, Chama Martin, Sierra Martin, Aspen Martin and Dakota Martin. Boy Scouts of Mason (Troop 281) prepared the Saturday morning breakfast. Individuals helping were: Levi Hofmann, Dillan Hofmann, Louis Castillo, Miguel Castillo, Samuel Martinez, Emmanuel Martinez, Tyler Chew, Ryan Schuessler and Wayne Carl Hofmann.Additional ranches are needed for the January 7 hunt.
