Sand Mines
Letter to the Editor
Wednesday, December 7, 2011 • Posted December 7, 2011

Every week critics of our nearby sand mines have more and more to say.The are or will pollute ground water, are polluting the air, causing satellite images of where some of them are to look like satellite images of Iraq, contributing to the loss of family values, and more!Although this list of the harm the mines do, gets longer every week, I do not believe things are this bad.To dig a hole and get sand and rocks out of it does not pollute ground water in my opinion. If I'm wrong sand plants are not the only polluters! Anyone who has dirt tanks or pits dug, anyone who digs a hole may be a polluter!Concerning the satellite images, Iraq is a desert--and this part of the state is becoming a desert. So I am sure there will be some similarities in the images.Perhaps things are not so bad and these mines can benefit this area economically. Even the Boy Scouts see that!
