The Riata Service Organization was co-hosted by Carol Dyal and Mini Schmidt in Carol’s lovely home. Laura Tallent was welcomed as a new member. Guest speaker was Scott Zesch who gave details about the Mason Community Kitchen, a newly formed nonprofit association dedicated to preparing and distributing frozen meals to the needy. After hearing the presentation, it was decided that a $1000 grant would be given by Riata to Mason Community Kitchen. Scott also presented a wonderful review of his newest book, “The Chinatown War”, which will be available to the public next summer. Members were informed of a new $4,000 grant that was recently given to Riata from the Lillie Eckert Baskett Trust of the San Antonio Area Foundation to further benefit the Odeon Preservation Association. The next meeting will be December 13, 2011.
