Mason ISD Student Wins $500 for His School, Mason Elementary

Ty Spencer, student at Mason Elementary, entered and won the Raise Your Hand Texas (RYHT) Pick the Pic contest. The contest ran from September 7—October 7, 2011 and required Ty to submit a photo answering the question, “What two things inspire you to achieve success?”In Ty’s photo, he stated the two things that inspire him to achieve success include his love for football and his two dads—Cliff Spencer, his first dad who is in Heaven having passed away when Spencer was 1 year old, and Jim Bill Schmidt, his second dad here on Earth who married his mom four years ago.The contest was open to all public school students in Texas and RYHT has awarded one winner per Region as determined by the number of “Likes” per photo. Ty was competing for first place with other public school students in Education Service Center Region 15. His winning photo had 987 votes at the close of the contest.RYHT is a non-profit public education advocacy organization. The contest was open to all current Texas public school students (parental permission required) and the goal was to raise public awareness of the importance of student achievement and success.The statewide contest in which parents and students were asked to submit one photo was conducted on the RYHT Facebook page. The student’s campus wins a $500 contribution from the Raise Your Hand Texas Education Fund. The mission of Raise Your Hand Texas is to engage the citizens of Texas in powerful partnerships that invest in a quality education for ALL children, resulting in brighter futures for students and for our state.
