Mason Wins Second Place in Sandlot Wood Bat Tournament
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 • Posted July 16, 2008

On a very hot Saturday June 28, saw the completion of the first Mason Sandlot Wood Bat Tournament.

Starting the Consolation games Saturday morning saw the Llano team slugging it out with the Cen-Tex team from the Bangs area. Cen-Tex came out the winner of that game taking 7th place. San Angelo then took on Wall to determine who would go to the Championship game at the end of the day out of the first pool. San Angelo was able to get by Wall to advance. This put Wall in the running for 3rd place.

Following this game Mason came out and played San Saba. After a very good game, Mason came out on top. This sent Mason to the Championship game against San Angelo.

Goldthwaite was able to get by Brady for the Consolation Trophy. San Saba and Wall played a hard fought game with Wall ending up with 3rd place.

Finally at the end of a very long day, Mason and San Angelo took the field. San Angelo came out playing hard. Mason had a few errors and fell behind on the scoreboard. Fighting hard and coming back, Mason finally fell by one point to lose first place.

We were very pleased with the effort by our Mason boys playing against some very strong teams. Playing for Mason is Adam Timms, Matt Harper, Justin Yonker, Estevan Villarreal, Jeremy Duarte, Korey Kunc, Austin, Trip, Winston, Trip, Bodie Adams, and Andy Duarte. The proceeds from this tournament will go for improvements at the High School Baseball Field.

At this time in the season Mason’s record is 5 wins and only 2 losses. These boys are striving to improve their baseball skills to better the team next year. Santos was kind enough to sponsor this winning team.
