Last week was a moment to remember for everyone who has ever called Mason “home” with the football team bringing home the State Championship. A huge congratulations go out to the Puncher football team and coaches for giving all of us a season to be proud of and for working so hard as a team to do the best they could every single week. It was a pleasure all season to know that although there were often “most valuable players”, the real difference was that these young men worked together as a team and supported each other in every way. It took a whole team to win the Championship, and that team includes all of the loyal fans that have yelled encouragement, driven many miles to go to the games and kept the purple spirit in full flow all fall. Working together is the way to have a winning football season, and the way to change the world one step at a time. This is one more reason that I can proudly say without question that Mason is the very best hometown in Texas. This week is the last of the Advent season as we prepare for the celebration of Christmas on Sunday. I have found a great pleasure and peacefulness in the Christmas lights around the square and around town each night. The outline of the buildings in the center of town, the beauty of the light tree in Heritage Park, and the variety of decorations throughout our neighborhoods bring a glow to this season. One night this week I hope you will take a few minutes to drive around town and enjoy the sense of community and the excitement of Christmas in small town Texas. This time of year is one of the best reasons to live in Mason: there is no traffic to speak of, friends and neighbors greet you warmly everywhere you go, the children are alive with the excitement and joy, and there is a real remembrance that this is not about gifts under the tree or the rush and busyness, but is a celebration of God’s greatest gift in the wrappings of a child born in Bethlehem. May each of you be blessed this week as we enjoy all that is ours through the coming of Christ and the celebration of this Christmas time in the fullness of His love.

Your friend and neighbor, Brent Hinckley
